Get a Hot Bottom
Tags: Grey Jeans, Hot Bottom, White PantsI’m very excited about what I call “hot bottoms” this month. No, I’m not getting crass; I’m referring to two types of pants you should add to your wardrobe right now that will carry you through the whole next year. They already work perfectly this Spring, with its “on again/off again” weather patterns. In a few months they will lighten things up as summer arrives, which, in Oregon, is celebrated by large groups of people watching fireworks explode. This Fall they will help you breeze through the change of seasons, and, based on the fashion trends I heard at market this Spring, you’ll be wearing them again in Spring 2012. Now that’s a smart wardrobe investment!
So what are these “hot bottoms?” I’m talking about white pants and grey jeans . Traditionally, the workhorses in our wardrobe are blue jeans and black pants, showing up every other day as the foundation of outfits made different by various tops. Dark jeans and black pants are the salt and pepper, if you will, in our spice rack. But, just like garlic or cinnamon in your kitchen, it’s important to carry some other basic spices to add flavor to what you’re presenting. When you add these other two bottom pieces to your wardrobe rotation, you’ll easily update your look, lighten up your style in warm weather and extend the longevity of your traditional pieces.
White pants: You don’t have to wait until Memorial Day to wear white any more. Women are already wearing the current white pant styles, which are fresh, sexy and come in many different lengths, from city shorts to capris to skinny jeans. Pop a long tunic over them and you won’t have to worry about your “bottom” being overexposed or showing VPLs. Make them casual for the day with a tank or tee, denim jacket and sporty shoe or take them into the evening with a feminine floral blouse, soft cardigan or tailored jacket and layered accessories.
Grey jeans: Grey is predicted to be the contemporary wardrobe basic all the way through next Spring. Not as dark as a blue jean but not as light as white pants, grey pants are perfect for a myriad of occasions. Wear them now tucked into knee boots with your layered tops. In June, slip on a wedge shoe and add a lighter weight shirt on top. And when it gets really warm, pair them with a halter top and gladiator sandals to turn heads at the summer barbecue. Grey jeans are currently available in many cute styles, whether they’re full or straight legs, with or without zipper or rhinestone embellishments, full- or ankle-length.
I love it when I find versatile wardrobe pieces that really give me my money’s worth, and these two additions certainly qualify. But if anyone asks why you bought these two pant styles this Spring, I think you should just tell them you wanted a “hot bottom!”
